Tampa Awnings Protect Doors and Windows

Window Awning Tampa - Moss

Protect Windows and Doors with Beautiful Fabric Awnings

On Friday we installed a pair of canvas fabric awnings for Susan in Tampa.  She was having some trouble with both sun intrusin and rain water control.  She wanted three benefits from her awnings:

  1. Susan needed a product that would shade her windows and doors from the hot afternoon sun.  This would lower her indoor temperature, save her money on cooling costs, and protect her indoor furnishings from UV fading damage.
  2. Susan needed a produt that would protect her vintage windows and doors from water intrusion.  With older windows and doors, small leaks are common.
  3. Susan needed a product that was attractive and added style and curb appeal to her home.

After speaking with one of our Tampa awning experts, Susan decided that the fixed-frame canvas awning was the right solution for her.  It offers exceptional sun and rain protection while adding a splash of color and style to any structure.  With a 10 year fade, mold, and mildew warranty, her awnings will offer at least a decade of fine service before they need to have replacement fabric applied.  When compared to the high cost of installing new windows and doors, which are both expensive and unlikely to match her vintage home's appearance, the choice to install affordable canvas awnings is easily the right one.

Canvas Sunbrella Awnings in Tampa Transform Outdoor Patio into Summertime Oasis

This week we had the pleasure of installing a new Sunbrella canvas awning for Anita in Tampa, FL.  She came to us hoping for a way to get more use out of her outdoor patio area during the summer.  Anita had three major problems:

  1. The summer sun in Tampa is incredibly hot and makes her patio unusable
  2. The afternoon rain storms during the summer wash out most outdoor plans.
  3. Her French doors were prone to leaking at the threshold during heavy rains.

These are very common problems in West Central Florida and at West Coast Awnings, we have been solving these problems for almost 60 years.

In Anita's case, she chose a traditional style awning with Sunbrella canvasSunbrella canvas has a breathable weave that allows hot air to escape through it while maintaining a nearly waterproof barrier against rain.  At 17ft wide and 7ft projection, her new canvas awning gives her an additional 119 sq ft of living space that is shaded and protected from rain.

She also chose to powder coat her welded aluminum awning subframe and her structural aluminum posts.  We excavated and poured concrete footings for proper anchoring of her fabric awning frame so it would withstand hurricane force winds up to or exceeding the strict Florida Building Code.  Finally, we sealed the Sunbrella awning to her home using the highest grade commercial terpolymer sealant available today.

With the addition of her new Sunbrella canvas awning, Anita can now enjoy her outdoor living space year-round without having to worry whether the weather will spoil her plans.  If you would like us to help you with an awning or canopy for your outdoor patio or deck, please give us a call or use our Contact Us form to send an electronic message.  We will get in touch with you to set up a FREE on-site consultation with one of our awning experts.

The Professional Awning Manufacturer's Association recently released this light-hearted look at the funcitonality and energy savings of awnings and shade systems.  If you have questions about how an awning or other sun shade device can affect your cooling costs and make your home a more energy efficient place to live, give us a call today!

While this video is admittedly cheesy, it makes a few very valid points about the benefits of awnings. The professional awnings manufacturer's association is not a movie production studio, so we should not expect any Oscar nominations for this one, but it is still worth discussing.  If you have any questions about the information provided, please give us a call at the phone number listed above so we can discuss your particular sun control problem.  Applying a shade structure to the outside of the window is by far more effective than letting the sunlight pass through the glass and heat up the carpet or even the curtains meant to keep the sun out.  Try it out for yourself: when the sun is shining on your curtains, walk over and touch them with your hand.  Do they feel hot?  Of course they do, they are in direct sunlight!  Where do you think that heat that you feel is going all day?  If the curtains get hot, they warm up the air around them; they heat the air inside your house!  Putting up curtains may keep the sun from fading your carpet (because it will fade the curtains instead), but they do not keep the room you're in effectively cooler.  If you stop the sunlight outside of the window with an awning, however, you will keep the glass cool, the carpet cool, the furniture cool, and therefore the air inside the room will stay cool.  If you want to really keep a hot room cool, stop the sun BEFORE it gets to the glass.
